Summary/Objective:
The Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented intern to support the Reference and Public Services team. This internship provides hands-on experience in reference and research services while learning about the library’s databases and collections.
The intern will assist Reference Librarians with fielding external research and appointment inquiries, as well as support the creation and cleanup of LibGuides.
This opportunity is open to students enrolled in graduate-level library and information studies programs with a focus on librarianship or archiving, with a strong interest or undergraduate degree in film studies.
This is a limited-term internship position beginning in June 2026 through August 2026.

Essential Functions of the Job:
- Assist with external reference queries via email, phone, and in person at the Library's reference desk.
- Assist with creating and editing Reference Department LibGuides for internal staff use.
- Assist with filing and refiling Research and Duplication Services orders.
- Participate in project-based work aligned with the intern's own interests and the needs of the department, as available.
- Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited Master's degree program in library and information science or moving image studies.
- A minimum of 3.0 GPA.
- Knowledge of and interest in the film industry and film history, with a broad awareness of independent features, foreign language cinema, and current releases.
- Familiarity with library systems, content management systems, and digital asset management systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrates attention to detail, self-motivation, and effective problem-solving skills.
- A bachelor’s degree in film studies, history, art history, or a related field is preferred.
- Coursework or experience in advanced searching tools, digital preservation, and metadata schemas preferred.
