Summary/Objective:
Reporting to the Grounds Lead, the Groundskeeper will maintain the Museum’s aesthetic and functional outdoor space. Daily activities include cleaning and resetting furniture, caring for trees and plants, hardscapes, and sidewalks. You will thrive in this role if you have knowledge of grounds equipment, maintenance, safety procedures, and a passion for creating a clean and welcoming environment for our visitors.
This position is represented by a union.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Maintain landscape (trees, groundcovers, shrubs, and annual/perennial color displays).
- Perform grounds maintenance work, including planting, cultivating, trimming, pruning, fertilizing, and irrigating trees, shrubs, hedges, and lawns. Water plants by hand.
- Be responsible for setting up interior and exterior furniture for our events.
- Perform weed abatement and other grounds-related functions.
- Operate groundskeeping power equipment.
- Operate grounds-related equipment and tools.
- Assist with the clearing of trash and other debris.
- Assist with maintenance of DG (decompose granite), walkways, sidewalks, fences, and other areas.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, supervisors, administrators, customers, and visitors.
Required Competencies:
- A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
- 1+ years of grounds, custodial, or set-up services-related experience.
- Knowledge of grounds care techniques.
- Eagerness to attend and participate in continuing educational programs.
- Flexibility to work a variable schedule to include different shifts, weekends, holidays, some overtime, and late nights.

Physical Demands:
- Work indoors and outdoors in fluctuating temperatures.
- Work under adverse situations and conditions (dirty, noisy, etc.).
- Work on ladders, lifts, and heights comfortably.
- Move, push, pull, and transport up to 50 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop/squat for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and maintenance is a plus.
- Knowledge of properly caring for DG (decomposed granite) is a plus.
- Sprinkler system experience is a plus.

Compensation: The salary range for this role is $21.50 - $23.50 per hour. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
